The heat

I think this is the hottest summer of my life.

We've had close to an entire month of days over 90°F. Denis is convinced that the weather was like this when he was growing up in Simferopol, but I don't think I've ever experienced anything of this magnitude. And a very, very grumpy cat has been camped out on the bathroom floor for weeks now, trying to stay cool.

If you live somewhere hot, please send me tips! How does your brain not melt into a pile of mush? How do you keep your bedroom from turning into an oven at night?

In the meantime, I'll be eating ice cream and looking back on the nice chilly temperatures of just a few months ago...

What's the temperature where you are?

And if you've got them, please please please send coping strategies for hot days! :)

  1. Love the pictures... we had some really hot weather two weeks ago, it was 41 celcius with the humidex. The Go-Train was delayed because the severe heat expanded the train tracks. The sidewalks in the city looked like skateboard ramps. Right now, it's raining and thunderstorming, the humidity is coming back, but I think it will hit only 32 celcius tomorrow.

    2. Thanks, Gisele! Wow, that is REALLY, REALLY HOT. Sounds like you guys deserve a break! I hope you were able to watch the thunderstorm from a safe, cozy spot.

  2. It doesn't get that hot where I live but one trick when it gets uncomfortable over night is to put a damp cloth around your neck. You could even prep a few in the fridge to make them extra cold.

  3. I haven't experience anything over 30 Centigrade this year (I have no idea what that is in Farenheit - I just know what you've been experiencing is crazy hot). I don't have any tips, but I sympathise. I'm no good in hot weather. I remember being in central Australia (near Uluru) and the soles melting off my walking boots (it was around 45 centigrade). I thought I was going to die. I avoid it now...

    1. Your boots started melting?? That's hardcore!, but probably totally worth it for Uluru :) That book I mentioned on your blog- In A Sunburned Country- had a chapter about Alice Springs and beyond. The author was stunned by Uluru. I'd (very reluctantly) brave that kind of heat too (once) to see it... and then be ready for Antarctica for the rest of my life ;)

  4. It's super hot here in Florida too. We keep the air conditioner going all day long and stay indoors during the hottest times of the day.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Sage! Sounds like you have it down to an art :) I'm dreaming of a good AC... have a little spray bottle with water instead- a cold shower for the timid.
